A while ago, the Blue-Eyed Boy had entered the Indian roads. Yes, the new WagonR was recently launched in India by car maker Maruti Suzuki. It is now available in dealerships across India. Maruti Suzuki gave the old WagonR a makeover to bring out the new version. The facelift has given the WagonR a new headlamp cluster, a smiling grille and new front bumpers. As for the interiors, the athletic version of the car flaunts an all-new dashboard design and enhanced plastic quality. In this article let’s look at the story of Maruti Suzuki’s New WagonR in India.

Maruti Suzuki had put in Rs 290 Crore on improving the design of the WagonR and the new version certainly looks like a made-for-India car that can accommodate even the large Indian families. It is strapped with a 1-litre K10B engine that produces 67 bhp and a maximum torque of 90 Nm. This 998cc three-cylinder engine is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. The specifications meet the Indian road conditions just right. The fuel economy of 18 kmpl is also commendable.

Vehicles in 13 cities in India, from April 1, 2010, had to comply with the BS IV emission norms while remaining Indian cities had to abide by BS III norms. The New WagonR will not have to worry about that as it complies with the Bharat Stage IV emission norms. The car will be produced from Maruti Suzuki’s Gurgaon facility in India. The cable type transmission and new frame type suspension ensure stability of the new WagonR on all roads. The NVH levels have also been enhanced. Maruti had reworked on the front suspension to make car handling better.

The old WagonR had been doing very well in India and had been selling real well since its launch in 2001. By March 2010, Maruti Suzuki had sold over 8.8 Lakh units of the WagonR in India and 55,00,000 units across the globe. Then came the launch of the new WagonR and the car has been doing well even now. The new WagonR has a more up-to-the-minute and curvier look with a sloping roof and blazing fenders. The new car also sports bigger and wider wheels. The doors are large and there is chrome accentuation on the exteriors with the WagonR brand engraved in chrome in the rear.

The dual-tone interiors of the new car, sport 3-D fabric seats with 60:40 split rear seats. There’s silver accentuation everywhere. The new tilt steering wheel, ergonomic gear knob and the new speedometer design, and the integrated audio with AUX-in and 6-band graphic equalizer come standard in the Marut Suzuki New WagonR. The full-trim interiors including A, B and C pillar trims create an excellent ambience.

The New WagonR has the Chevrolet Beat and the Hyundai i10 as competitors in India.

Incredible India has earned this title on account of the immense variety and life in the commingling features of this unique country. The physical features of India is an incredible mixture of stupendously high and majestic mountain ranges of the Great Himalayas in the North, nestling the world’ highest mountain peak of Everest in its folds, to the deep blue seas and oceans of Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Sea flanking its three other sides. There are famous deserts like the Thar Desert along with the most fertile and populous river valleys of Ganges-Brahmaputra and Indus and its tributaries.

The stretches of sand, sea, and sunshine, magnificent historical sites, misty mountain retreats, grand metropolis, colorful and ethnic races and creeds, innumerable languages, varied religions and beliefs, festivals, and rich cultures all together lend this land a charm different from any other country in this world.

India is the only country where you will find the religiously devout young and old flocking in the countless temples, mindlessly worshipping, praying, and fasting side by side with the modern and liberated young breed thronging the discos and pubs smoking, drinking, and enjoying life with similar gusto and fervor. Here traditional and ethnic garments like sarees and salwar kameez finds an equally important place with minis, midis, and micro-minis. The docile, obedient mothers, daughters, and daughter-in-laws are as much seen as energetic, late-working, single, and professional working women. Here love marriages go hand-in-hand with arranged marriages.

Everything said and done, India is a charming place to visit and a special attraction to tourists from all across the globe. The physical beauty of the country along with the spirit and life makes India an incredible destination. Culinary delights, cheap and luxurious accommodation, recent infrastructural development have all joined hands to make India even more attractive to the world.

Two years ago, in 2008 we began noticing the change in the Indian car industry. Over 40 models were lined up for launch at an auto show that year and, for the very first time one was given the assurance of being able to see 35 SUVs in 2 years. Never before did the Indian consumer have so many options as far as SUVs were concerned. A year before that, in 2007, 3.5 Lakh SUVs were sold in India. That was indeed astounding and the SUV market has only grown since then.

The Indian roads have welcomed not just entry-level utility vehicles like the Mahindra Bolero and Tata Sumo Grande but also classy SUVs like the VW Tiguan and BMW X5. As the Indian economy takes a turn for the better, the lifestyle is also changing and traveling and weekend getaways have become common. What better vehicle can one have than an SUV for such family trips?

The city crowd that had been wanting something different than the usual sedans has been very happy since the coming in of the Honda CR-V. With its chic looks and cozy interiors the big monstrous car has attracted almost every Indian. In India, the SUV is available with two engines, a 2.0-litre i-VTEC that delivers 141 bhp and a 2.4-litre i-VTEC that stirs up 161 bhp. Then we also have other SUV cars in India like the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Pajero. But these haven’t been strong contenders for the Honda CR-V. The Chevrolet Captiva, though, looks full of promises for the SUV fanatics in India.

When it comes to SUV cars, there cannot be anything like Mahindra and Tata. The two auto makers are leaders in the segment with an entire array of SUVs just right for the Indian crowd and the humpy bumpy roads in India. The Mahindra Scorpio for example, with its stylish boxy frame is enough proof to prove the success of an Indian car maker in the SUV segment. When this particular car made its entry it was a hit in no time and created a wave of gusto among the Indian professionals. The car has its own class.

The Tata Safari is another SUV that has earned wide popularity even in petite towns. Following the Safari’s success, Tata Motors successfully uncovered the Sumo Grande at the Delhi Auto Expo which was again a great craze among the Indians. With its eye-catching features and spacious interiors, the Grande has certainly lived up to its grand name.

Next, we have the Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Tucson and the Ford Endeavour having their own place as stately vehicles in the minds of Indians and their car porches. The Volvo too, looking at the rest, finally launched its XC-90 for the class-loving SUV buyers. For those possessing an even higher exclusive taste, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, the BMW X5, the Audi Q7, and the Porsche Cayenne SUVs are going to suffice.

A R Rahman became the first Indian to win the Golden Globe award for the Best Original Score in his movie Slumdog Millionaire. No Indian has ever got any award at the prestigious Golden Globe awards prior to Rahmanji. He is regarded as the best music composer in India and now he has also proved his talent to the whole world. Shahrukh Khan also created history at the award function by becoming the first Indian to present an award at the Golden Globe awards. Great going Bollywood and great going India!

I had recently watched the Hollywood movie Slumdog Millionaire which is already sweeping all international movie awards. The movie shows the pathetic conditions of the people residing in the slums of Mumbai and how they are reeling under poverty. The movie has undoubtedly touched my heart although it is a Hollywood movie. And this picture reminded me of the movie but it also shows how the poor people residing in the Mumbai slums try to find light in their lives. This photo is taken during diwali where the slum dwellers light up diyas making the slum look very beautiful.
